The market is being built under a public-private partnership and is expected to be ready in about a month. Vendors will be able to trade inside the building, which will also provide parking; the surrounding restriction is intended to keep the approach roads clear after the market opens.
Pandey said the multi-level car park at Hampankatta is expected to take another year and a half to complete, with the corporation reviewing progress every two weeks.
The commissioner also described a new enforcement process for illegal dumping. The city’s Integrated Command and Control Centre is monitoring repeat dumping; cameras can capture vehicles, after which owners may receive notices and penalties. Pandey said the corporation would file police complaints against repeat offenders who dump large quantities of waste. Market traders will also be required to display their licences and keep their premises clean.
