The cub was found on September 17 in Natungaon village, in Biswanath district, with its forelimbs caught in a net behind a house. Officials said strong river currents may have separated it from its mother.
Rescuers searched nearby river islands and kept the animal under veterinary observation at the Central Range Office of Kaziranga’s Biswanath Division. They later moved it to an upstream island after evidence suggested a tigress with cubs had recently been there.
A drone survey prompted officials to shift the cub again when rising water threatened the site. On September 23, teams found pugmarks about 200 metres from the release point. A camera trap will monitor the area over the coming weeks for signs of an adult tigress.
