The Kremlin said on Thursday that no decision had been made on a possible December summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. Washington has invited Putin to a G20 meeting in Miami, where the two leaders could meet.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia appreciated the invitation but would review and coordinate it before making a decision. He added that it was too early to discuss what the presidents might put on an agenda.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the invitation on Wednesday. Trump has sought since returning to the White House to broker an end to the war in Ukraine, but the effort has not produced a breakthrough.
Peskov repeated Moscow’s position that it is seeking a peace settlement rather than a temporary ceasefire. Until the invitation is formally accepted, the proposed summit remains a possibility rather than a scheduled diplomatic event.
