Final rebuilt Scandinavia highway section opens near Vyborg

Traffic opened on a rebuilt section of Russia's A-181 Scandinavia highway near Vyborg on October 14. The section between kilometres 130 and 134 has been widened from two lanes to six.
Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin gave the opening instruction by video link. Leningrad region Governor Alexander Drozdenko said the opening completed the main reconstruction phase between kilometres 100 and 134 of the Scandinavia highway.
The newly opened section includes a grade-separated junction with an overpass at the road to Smirnovo. An overhead pedestrian crossing and highway lighting have also been installed.
Barriers separate opposing traffic. Drozdenko said the reconstruction prevented vehicles from crossing into oncoming lanes on this section.
The second completed project is on the R-23 route linking St Petersburg, Pskov, Pustoshka and Nevel with the Belarusian border. Major repairs covered the section between kilometres 81 and 97.
