Occupants rescued from burning footwear shop building in Miryalaguda

Police and firefighters rescued occupants trapped above a footwear shop in Miryalaguda, Telangana, after flames and smoke blocked their escape on Sunday, October 11.

The fire broke out in Islampura, in Nalgonda district. Footwear was stored in a building comprising a ground floor, two upper floors and a penthouse. As the blaze spread, people on the upper floors could no longer get out.

The district fire officer attributed the blaze to an electrical short circuit. The fire service received a distress call at about 12.15 p.m. and sent two fire engines to tackle the flames.

Officers from Miryalaguda One Town police station also arrived and helped evacuate the occupants. Firefighters brought the blaze under control. The Hindu reported four people rescued, while Telangana Today reported five family members brought to safety.

Nalgonda district police praised the personnel involved for their response to the emergency.
