Wadiyar family’s private Navaratri celebrations begin in Mysuru
Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar ascended the golden throne at Mysuru Palace on October 11, opening the former royal family’s private Navaratri celebrations.
The Hindu reported that the ceremony took place in the palace’s Durbar Hall. Yaduveer performed worship before ascending the throne. The private reception, known as the Khas Durbar, is held during Dasara for a limited group of invitees.
Morning rituals included tying sacred threads around the wrists of Yaduveer and his wife, Trishikha Kumari Wadiyar. An elephant, a horse and a cow associated with the palace traditions also took part.
Priests from different temples presented ritual offerings to Yaduveer, while the Police Band played ‘Kayo Sri Gowri’, the anthem of the former Mysuru kingdom. Family members, including Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, attended the ceremony.
The private durbar will take place in the evenings on the remaining days. The palace rituals are scheduled to conclude on October 21, Vijayadashami. Yaduveer also represents the Mysuru-Kodagu constituency in India’s parliament.
