A total of 147 education-system employees have been injured since school protests began in France, Le Monde reported on October 13, citing the Education Ministry. The figure is cumulative for the movement that started in September.

RIA Novosti, citing the newspaper’s figures, reported that 20 employees were injured on October 12, including five heads of educational institutions. Those figures cover one day and form part of the overall total.

Secondary-school students are protesting crowded timetables, teacher shortages and other problems in education. Some demonstrations have been accompanied by unrest.

Le Monde also reported the ministry’s figure of 214 lycées that remained closed on Tuesday, October 13. Injured employees and closed institutions are different measures of the protests’ effects and cannot be added together or treated as a total casualty count.
