Duane Davis sentenced to 40 years to life for Tupac Shakur murder

A Las Vegas court sentenced Duane “Keffe D” Davis to 40 years to life in prison for orchestrating Tupac Shakur’s murder. Reuters and The Associated Press reported the sentencing on October 13.
Davis had previously been convicted of first-degree murder. He was not accused of personally firing the fatal shots. The prosecution concerned his role in organising the attack, which took place in Las Vegas in September 1996.
Shakur suffered gunshot wounds and died six days later at age 25. Prosecutors said the attack retaliated for an assault on Davis’s nephew following a boxing match. Davis’s arrest in 2023 followed renewed scrutiny of statements he had made in interviews and a memoir.
Judge Carli Kierny imposed the sentence. Reuters corrected its initial report to remove a statement that Davis had received life without the possibility of parole. Davis had denied guilt. The sentencing report does not establish that any potential appeal process is over.
