Carlos Boulos suffered fatal injuries in a road altercation on Avenida 23 de Maio; police are investigating the incident.
Carlos Boulos, uncle of Brazilian presidential administration official Guilherme Boulos, died in São Paulo on the morning of October 6. Three days earlier, a car struck him during a confrontation between drivers on Avenida 23 de Maio in the city centre, CNN Brasil reported.
According to São Paulo state’s Public Security Secretariat, the drivers argued after a collision. Carlos, who was driving a pickup truck, got out to speak with the other driver. That driver moved the car toward him and hit him. Witness footage recorded part of the altercation; CNN Brasil said the vehicle struck Carlos as it manoeuvred to leave, knocking him to the ground.
Carlos was taken to a medical facility. CNN Brasil reported that he was declared brain-dead, a condition involving the complete and irreversible loss of brain function. The driver fled, but police identified the vehicle from its registration, and the driver later gave a statement and was released. Authorities said no arrest was made at the scene because of restrictions under Article 236 of Brazil’s Electoral Code.
Guilherme Boulos posted a tribute to his uncle on social media, calling Carlos one of the most generous people he had known and saying the family was grieving.
