Brisbane gymnastics coach stood down amid child assault investigation

Queensland police are investigating a reported assault at Splitz Gym. The coach has been suspended while the inquiry continues; the allegation has not been proven.

A coach at Splitz Gym in Sumner, south-west Brisbane, has been stood down after a report of an alleged physical assault of a child. Queensland police are investigating the incident; The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the child-protection unit received a report on September 16.

Gymnastics Australia and Gymnastics Queensland said the club immediately referred the allegation to the sports bodies, Sport Integrity Australia and police. The coach was suspended from the club and other clubs affiliated with Gymnastics Australia while the investigation proceeds.

The organisations said they had written to parents at the club about the allegation and encouraged anyone with further information to contact Sport Integrity Australia. Police said the investigation was continuing. The allegation has not been tested in court, and the organisations declined to comment further while the matter is being handled by police.
