Fuel prices in South Africa are due to rise at midnight on Oct. 7. Data published by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources ahead of the change put inland 93-octane petrol at 29.88 rand per litre and 95-octane petrol at 30.25 rand. The corresponding coastal prices are 29.01 rand and 29.38 rand.

Wholesale diesel containing 0.05% sulphur is set to cost 31.95 rand per litre inland and 31.08 rand on the coast. Illuminating paraffin is listed at 24.47 rand inland and 23.42 rand on the coast. The government has set a nationwide maximum retail price of 31.82 rand per litre for illuminating paraffin.

The department cited rising global crude prices amid US-Iran tensions and movements in the rand among the factors behind the increase. The new prices take effect after midnight; the listed diesel and paraffin amounts apply to the grades and regions specified in the department’s data.
