Rohit Yadav explains how Neeraj Chopra's javelin helped him win Asian Games bronze

Rohit Yadav says he won Asian Games bronze in Japan using a javelin supplied by Neeraj Chopra. He described the gesture in a Times of India interview published on October 10.

Yadav said his usual javelin was bent after a flight from Bhubaneswar, where he won a national competition in June with 87.05 metres. He used borrowed equipment at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, finishing seventh with 81.56 metres.

Before travelling to Japan, Yadav contacted Chopra, who was recovering from an ankle ligament injury. Chopra sent one of his signed javelins by private taxi to Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi.

Yadav could not use the gift at a September competition in Delhi because it had not been registered for technical inspection. At the Asian Games, he registered two implements and chose Chopra's. His 84.35-metre throw earned bronze in the September 28 final. An IANS competition report published by NDTV also confirms that result.

Chopra congratulated him afterwards in a voice message. Yadav plans to keep the javelin and use it in future competitions. His next sporting targets include securing a Diamond League entry and qualifying for next year's World Championships. The Los Angeles Olympics remain his longer-term goal.
