Hyderabad prepares to host Indian Roads Congress in November

Telangana is preparing a gathering of road specialists and a technology exhibition at the HITEX Exhibition Centre.

The 85th annual session of the Indian Roads Congress will take place in Hyderabad from November 19 to 22. Organisers expect about 3,000 delegates and 400 exhibition stalls at the HITEX Exhibition Centre, The Hindu reported.

Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy reviewed preparations with state officials, IRC representatives and the Union transport ministry. Discussions will cover road construction, traffic safety, modern technology and infrastructure development. Students from IITs and engineering colleges in Telangana are also expected to take part.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari are expected at the opening on November 19. Venkat Reddy said the conference would offer an opportunity to present infrastructure projects ahead of the Invest Telangana Global Summit planned for December.

At the same meeting, the minister outlined progress on widening NH-65 between Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Machilipatnam. The project is estimated to cost ₹12,073 crore and would provide six main lanes and two service lanes. He said technical procedures were complete, while approval from the Union Cabinet committee remained pending.

Venkat Reddy also said land acquisition had been completed for the 161.518-km northern section of the Regional Ring Road. The government is preparing to invite tenders again after earlier attempts were cancelled because of land acquisition delays, while detailed project documentation is being completed.
