Yaroslavl authorities report downing small reconnaissance balloons
Yaroslavl Region's security ministry said small reconnaissance balloons had been shot down over the region. The ministry attributed their launch to Ukrainian territory.
RIA Novosti carried the regional ministry's statement on October 9. Officials said work to destroy such objects was continuing. Regional broadcaster Vesti Yaroslavl reported the same information, also citing the ministry.
The available statement does not specify how many balloons were downed, what equipment they carried or precisely where they were found. Their alleged reconnaissance role and origin are claims made by regional officials. The statement provides no independent evidence establishing those circumstances.
Residents were asked to remain calm, check information against official sources and avoid spreading unverified reports. Anyone finding suspicious objects or debris was advised to call 112. Officials warned against approaching the objects or attempting to move them.
