Karnataka recognised for 9 GW of wind projects under construction

The award was presented at Windergy India 2026 in Chennai and refers to projects under construction, not operating capacity.

The award, titled “Highest Under-Construction Wind Power Capacity of 9 GW,” was presented at the eighth Windergy India exhibition at the Chennai Trade Centre. The event was organised on Friday by the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers’ Association. The figure in the award category refers to projects under construction.

Karnataka Energy and Tourism Minister K. J. George said the recognition reflected the state’s efforts to attract investment in clean energy and create conditions for renewable energy development. Gaurav Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy Department, said the department would work with Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited and other stakeholders to support timely project execution.

The award does not mean that 9 GW is already connected to the grid or generating electricity. It is the stated category for capacity under construction recognised at the industry event in Chennai.
