Ole Miss expects Kewan Lacy back for Vanderbilt after injury absence

The running back practiced after sitting out the Florida game. Coach Pete Golding said the team will manage his workload as he returns.

Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy is expected to return for the Rebels’ Week 6 game against Vanderbilt. Coach Pete Golding said Lacy rested during the bye week and resumed practice, including some team work, on Sunday.

Lacy left Ole Miss’ win over LSU in the first half with an undisclosed injury and missed the loss to Florida. In his absence, backups JT Lindsey and Makhi Frazier combined for 93 yards on 23 carries across two games. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss led the team against Florida with 44 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Lacy’s return could help restore balance to the offense. He has 191 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 39 carries this season. In 2025, he was the Rebels’ primary back, rushing for 1,564 yards and 24 touchdowns on more than 306 carries.

Golding said the staff will be careful about Lacy’s workload as he rejoins the rotation. The coach does not expect him to immediately play 40 or 50 snaps. He said the team fully anticipates having Lacy available against Vanderbilt, but his role will depend on how he responds after returning from injury.
