The estate, bought by the couple in 1976, was known for a garden path bearing more than 40 celebrity signatures.
The Beverly Hills home of Kirk and Anne Douglas sold for $9.015 million after being listed for $7.495 million. Its best-known feature was a garden path paved with stones signed by more than 40 people from the entertainment industry, turning the couple’s private grounds into a small record of Hollywood history.
The Douglases bought the property in 1976 for $400,000, according to the source report. Their dinner parties brought prominent actors and other figures to the house, and guests were invited to sign the paving stones. Among the names reported were Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball, Roger Moore, Elizabeth Taylor and Jane Fonda. Members of the Douglas family also signed the path.
The residence was also called “The Stars of Beverly Hills.” The signatures made its history unusually tangible: rather than a plaque or a public display, the names were set into the route through the garden. Kirk Douglas, known for films including “Spartacus” and “Paths of Glory,” died in 2020 at 103. Anne Douglas died in 2021 at 102.
The house dates to 1921 and covers 4,648 square feet. It has four bedrooms and five bathrooms, formal living and dining rooms, a family room, and a kitchen with a breakfast bar and butler’s pantry. Glass doors open toward landscaped grounds with mature trees and a swimming pool. A two-storey guesthouse provides additional space.
The property is near the Beverly Hills Hotel, Rodeo Drive and the city’s restaurants and shops. The source report said a new owner could update or expand the residence while retaining its historic character. The sale price exceeded the asking price by $1.52 million.
