Kurchatov Institute reports key technologies ready for Sila synchrotron
The Kurchatov Institute has completed the main research and development stage for the planned Sila synchrotron in Protvino, vice-president Alexander Blagov said.
He said the necessary technologies for the accelerator, storage ring and experimental stations had been prepared. The work covers a free-electron laser and the ring accelerator's infrastructure.
Specialists developed all types of magnets, vacuum chambers, power supplies and undulators. Blagov said many technologies had been developed from scratch and production localisation was approaching 100 percent.
Project reviews are planned to finish this year. Blagov said the institute was ready to move to the next stage.
Sila is being designed for Protvino. The Kurchatov Institute leads the federal programme for synchrotron and neutron research and associated infrastructure through 2030 and beyond.
