Nausėda reports suspected drone explosion in northern Lithuania
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said a drone was believed to have exploded in the country's north. NATO jets took off from Šiauliai air base after an unidentified object entered Lithuanian airspace in the morning.
Nausėda said specialists were working at the site. He linked the incident to Russia's military actions against Ukraine. The object's origin remains under investigation.
Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas told LRT that possible debris had been found near Juodžionys village in Pasvalys district. Preliminary information indicated that the object had entered from Poland. Poor weather prevented the jets from making visual contact.
Kaunas said he had contacted Poland's defence minister and requested a joint investigation.
