Seoul says North Korea fired several ballistic missiles toward the sea
North Korea launched multiple ballistic missiles toward the Sea of Japan on October 12, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in an updated notice.
The military detected the launches at about 9:20 a.m. from the Pyongyang area. At least one missile travelled more than 900 kilometres, according to the South Korean account.
Seoul said it had increased surveillance for possible further launches and was sharing information with the United States and Japan. The first alert had described an unidentified projectile.
The North’s preceding launch was on October 3, from the Wonsan area. North Korean state media said that test involved an intermediate-range strategic missile and training for troops operating a hypersonic weapon system.
