South Korea’s daily securities settlements fall 16.5% in third quarter

South Korea’s daily securities settlements averaged 35.4 trillion won in the third quarter, down 16.5% from the previous quarter, according to Korea Securities Depository data released on October 12.

The July-September average fell from 42.4 trillion won in the preceding quarter, Aju Press reported. It nevertheless remained above the 27.4 trillion won recorded in the same quarter a year earlier.

Daily stock-exchange settlements averaged 8.8 trillion won, a quarterly decrease of 12.4%. The corresponding bond figure was 26.6 trillion won, down 17.7%, Yonhap reported.

The figures measure the value of securities settled through the depository per day. They describe settlement activity over the quarter and do not measure changes in stock prices or the value of investors’ portfolios.
