Lens beat Lyon to end four-match winless league run

Lens beat Lyon 2-1 at home in the sixth round of Ligue 1 on October 9. The hosts held on after Matthieu Udol's dismissal and inflicted Lyon's first defeat of the French league season.
Florian Sotoca opened the scoring in the 36th minute. Udol doubled the home side's advantage after the break with a goal in the 76th minute. He received a straight red card in the 84th, and Khalis Merah reduced Lyon's deficit a minute later. The visitors could not find an equaliser before the final whistle.
Lens ended a four-match winless run in the league. The result took the hosts to seven points, while Lyon remained on 11. Lens' next Ligue 1 match is scheduled for October 17 away to Troyes. Lyon will host Nice the following day.
