The city sale includes a window fragment from the Titanic’s sister ship, Piaget watches, luxury handbags and electronics.
Madrid City Hall is auctioning more than 5,600 unclaimed items, which become municipal property if their owners do not claim them within two years. The sale, hosted on the Hermes Capital Europa platform, opens on Monday and runs until October 13 at 8 p.m. The catalogue includes jewellery, watches, handbags, electronics, art and collectibles.
Among the unusual lots is a fragment of a window from the RMS Olympic, the Titanic’s sister ship, accompanied by a certificate and handwritten letter. Other items include an original 1977 Star Wars poster valued at €1,200, a Hermès Baby typewriter and a limited-edition Superplastic figure.
Luxury items include a Louis Vuitton suitcase valued at €1,300, handbags from Celine and Gucci, and a distinctive gold-coloured crown decorated with green and white stones. A rose-gold Piaget Altiplano watch is valued at more than €5,100. The catalogue also features MoonSwatch models and jewellery by Bulgari, Hermès, Swarovski, Dior, Pandora and other brands, alongside gold, silver and pearl pieces.
Technology lots include several Nintendo Switch models and special editions, including Fortnite Wildcat and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, as well as a PSP Street with 13 games. Photography equipment ranges from analogue to digital cameras, among them a Nikkormat FT, Nikon L35AF and Canon 814 XL Super 8 video camera. Phones, tablets, drones, vinyl records, fountain pens, musical instruments, philatelic items, artworks and furniture are also listed.
Madrid’s Lost Property Office received more than 78,000 items in 2025. Items unclaimed for two years pass to the city. Those not needed by municipal services and still in good condition can be sold at public auction. The report says the city has raised €1.4 million from auctions over the past two years, selling more than 4,700 items, including vehicles and unused industrial machinery.
Hermes Capital Europa handles valuation, cleaning, cataloguing, photography and the sale. Prospective buyers can view the digital catalogue and inspect items in person at 7 Calle de Nieremberg in Madrid until Wednesday during the hours listed by the organisers.
