
The quake struck the Pacific on October 7; no tsunami warning was issued.
A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck the Pacific Ocean near the southern Kuril Islands on the morning of October 7. Its epicenter was 59 kilometers east of Malokurilskoye village on Shikotan Island, Elena Semenova, head of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk seismic station, told RIA Novosti.
The quake’s focus was 63 kilometers beneath the seabed, she said. Tremors of up to three points were felt on Shikotan.
Semenova said no tsunami warning was issued.
