Former official and son arrested after Delhi Metro passenger's death
Delhi police have arrested former civil servant Sanjay Pratap Singh and his son Sidharth in connection with a passenger's death following an alleged assault during a dispute over a Metro seat.
Police said Pawan Sharma, 48, was travelling with his 65-year-old mother on October 8. The argument concerned seats reserved for senior citizens. Investigators are examining the confrontation and the alleged involvement of both men.
Sharma became unconscious at Supreme Court station and was taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His mother told police the men assaulted him after asking them to vacate the seats.
The case invokes Sections 105 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, covering culpable homicide not amounting to murder and acts committed with common intention. A court remanded Singh, 65, and his 36-year-old son to judicial custody for 14 days. The investigation remains ongoing.
