Mars Media develops new Heart of a Dog adaptation

Production company Mars Media is working on a new film based on Mikhail Bulgakov’s novella Heart of a Dog, with Ruben Dishdishyan as producer.

Sport-Express reports that the project is in active development.

Bulgakov wrote the novella in 1925. Its story centres on an experiment by Professor Filipp Preobrazhensky, who transplants a human pituitary gland into a stray dog named Sharik.

Vladimir Bortko made a two-part screen adaptation in 1988, starring Yevgeny Yevstigneyev and Vladimir Tolokonnikov.
