Lionel Messi is expected to play his final match for Argentina on Tuesday, a friendly against Benin. Ahead of the farewell, La Nación reviewed the forward’s national-team record: 125 goals in 207 appearances.

Messi’s nearest challenger on Argentina’s scoring list is Gabriel Batistuta, who scored 56 goals in 78 matches. Lautaro Martínez and Sergio Agüero have 42 each; Martínez reached that total in 86 appearances, while Agüero did so in 101.

The list continues with Hernán Crespo on 35 goals, Diego Maradona on 32, and Gonzalo Higuaín and Ángel Di María on 31 apiece. Luis Artime scored 24; Daniel Passarella and Leopoldo Jacinto Luque have 22 each; and Herminio Masantonio has 19. José Sanfilippo, Norberto Méndez and Mario Kempes scored 18 each.
