Molchanov sets 137-meter freediving world record with a monofin

Russian freediver Alexey Molchanov reached 137 meters in the constant-weight monofin discipline at the AIDA world championships in Cyprus, surpassing his previous record by one meter.

Molchanov completed the dive on one breath in five minutes and two seconds, then returned to the surface. The descent and ascent covered 274 vertical meters in total. His previous world mark in the discipline had stood since 2023.

In constant weight (CWT), athletes dive to a declared depth and return without changing the weight of their equipment. They may propel themselves with a monofin or bifins. Molchanov used a single monofin, worn across both legs, for the record attempt.

He also won the bifins event at the same championship with a 126-meter dive. Molchanov took silver in the no-fins discipline at 93 meters and silver in free immersion, in which divers move along a line, at 128 meters.

Cyprus and specialist freediving outlets also reported the 137-meter result at the AIDA world championships in Limassol. The performance added another record to a competition in which Molchanov placed across several depth disciplines.
