Peskov says Moscow would welcome Witkoff and Kushner after Miami talks
Dmitry Peskov said President Vladimir Putin would be glad to meet the U.S. envoys after their discussions with Ukrainian representatives.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would be welcome in Moscow after their contacts with a Ukrainian delegation in the United States. He added that Russian President Vladimir Putin would also be glad to meet them.
Peskov told reporters that Moscow understood the Miami discussions to include comprehensive plans and ideas for a settlement. Russia was ready to receive the envoys if the U.S. negotiators decided to brief the Russian side on those discussions, he said.
The statement came as Witkoff and Kushner were due to meet Ukrainian representatives in Miami on October 9 and 10. Axios and Reuters reported that the sides planned to discuss new proposals to end the war. No public text of the proposals had been released by the start of the meeting.
Peskov did not say whether a separate meeting between the envoys and Putin had been agreed or when it might take place. Putin had earlier thanked Donald Trump for efforts to settle the conflict in Ukraine and described his relations with the U.S. president as good and long-standing.
