Moscow names 154 competitors for national Abilympics championship

Moscow has selected a 154-member team for the national Abilympics 2026 championship after completing its regional stage, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. The national event will take place in Moscow from October 31 to November 3.

The regional final involved 890 residents, including six veterans of Russia’s military operations in Ukraine. Competitors included schoolchildren aged 14 and above, college and university students, and experienced professionals.

Employers partnering with the championship prepared the competition tasks. Organisers designed them to resemble practical challenges encountered in the workplace.

The team includes Aleksandr Linnik, an electrical installation winner and military veteran who works as a senior foreman in the electrical workshop at the State Kremlin Palace.

Student Eldar Yakupov won the engineering design category using CAD. Damir Arslanov took first place in welding technologies, and Alisa Zotova won the sewing category.

Sobyanin said the championship helps people with disabilities acquire professional skills, choose a field of work and improve their abilities. It also offers opportunities to find mentors and obtain jobs at leading Moscow companies.
