Russian President Vladimir Putin and Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin opened a cluster for producing traction batteries for electric transport. Putin took part in the ceremony by videoconference.
Putin said one of Rosatom’s factories in Moscow was entering industrial operation. He said the capital was developing a high-tech cluster to manufacture different types of batteries and credited support from the Moscow government as one factor that had made the project possible.
Sobyanin said the cluster includes two gigafactories and is the largest of its kind in Russia. He said 250 high-tech companies were already operating in the Moscow special economic zone. The mayor described the battery project as part of wider efforts to strengthen the country’s technological sovereignty.
