India’s education ministry, University Grants Commission and National Testing Agency are examining possible changes to the CUET-UG entrance test in 2027. The Times of India reports that one proposal would let candidates take all their papers in a single day.
Candidates can currently choose up to five subjects, with 60 minutes allotted for each paper. Under one proposal being considered, individual tests could be shortened so that a candidate taking five subjects could finish in about 180 to 200 minutes.
Officials are also discussing whether to reduce the maximum number of subjects from five to four. The Times of India reported that officials had been asked to examine ways to compress the exam schedule without changing universities’ admission requirements.
Another part of the proposal would group subjects according to commonly chosen combinations. Physics, chemistry and biology could be scheduled together for applicants to science programmes. Some universities could count general studies as a fourth paper.
The possible changes remain under discussion and would require consultations with universities and the testing agency. No final decision has been announced on the 2027 CUET-UG format.
