Palmeiras supporters put up a banner reading “Sunday is war” ahead of the club’s October 11 derby against Corinthians at Nubank Parque. The teams are due to meet in the 30th round of Brazil’s Serie A.
The banner appeared outside the stadium’s main gates on Rua Palestra Itália. CNN Brasil reported that supporters were emphasizing the importance of the upcoming match. Pressure for a win had already grown before Palmeiras faced Bahia on Thursday, October 8.
Mancha Alviverde, the club’s main organized supporters’ group, posted social media videos highlighting the derby’s significance. It also scheduled a march from its headquarters to Palmeiras’ training ground for Saturday, October 10, saying the group intended to discuss the match.
Palmeiras had not lost to its city rival in 2026. The team beat Corinthians in the São Paulo state championship and drew with them in the national league. Both matches were played at Neo Química Arena.
The Brazilian Football Confederation and the club list Sunday’s kickoff for 5:30 p.m. local time. Stadium capacity is expected to be reduced because a concert stage has been set up.
