The club said the 22-year-old left-back returned a positive result in an out-of-competition sample collected in early August. Jefté agreed to a provisional suspension while the anti-doping tribunal reviews the case.
Palmeiras said Jefté told the club he had taken furosemide inadvertently, away from the club and without the knowledge of its medical staff. The club said he agreed to a provisional suspension under the applicable rules and would stay away from training and other activities until the Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva Antidopagem issues a final decision.
The 22-year-old left-back has not played for nearly five months and is currently injured. A positive test is not a final ruling in the case. Palmeiras said it is following the proceedings closely and hopes they will be resolved promptly.
Jefté came through Fluminense’s youth academy, where Alexsander, Metinho, Matheus Martins and Kayky were also developed. He was unable to establish himself in Fluminense’s first team and joined Scotland’s Rangers in 2024, where he went on to stand out in Scottish football.
