Pierre de Gaulle, grandson of former French president Charles de Gaulle and deputy chair of the Leo Tolstoy Peace Prize jury, told RIA Novosti on October 5 that young people in France had stopped trusting politicians and major media outlets.
He said young people believe they are being lied to and that reality is being deliberately distorted. De Gaulle called for a return to traditions and a stronger role for parents and teachers. He said young Europeans need mentors who defend culture and social unity.
He added that the younger generation needs to be heard and shown affection, describing Russia as a good example in that respect. This was his assessment, not the result of a sociological poll.
