The reelected Mato Grosso governor discussed the state’s management model in a CNN 360° interview and said he would support Flávio Bolsonaro in the presidential runoff.
Reelected Mato Grosso governor Otaviano Pivetta (Republicanos) told CNN Brasil that the state does not depend financially on the federal government. He also said he would support Flávio Bolsonaro in the presidential runoff.
Pivetta said residents had entrusted him with governing the state for the next four years and that Mato Grosso began a cycle of prosperity in 2019. He said the state produces a third of Brazil’s grain crop—about 110 million tonnes on 13 million hectares—figures he cited in the interview.
The governor said U.S. tariffs have little effect on the state’s economy because it does not export large volumes to the United States, while buying American machinery and equipment. In national politics, Pivetta called for reforms, criticized current government spending and said he favored an economic team aligned with former Economy Minister Paulo Guedes.
Pivetta called discussion of the 2030 presidential election premature, though he praised reelected São Paulo governor Tarcísio de Freitas. He closed by saying the public administration should deliver services and build necessary infrastructure.
