Politico: EU plans Ukraine funding discussions with Canada and Britain
The European Union is preparing to seek additional support for Ukraine from Canada and Britain to help cover an expected €70 billion funding gap in 2027, Politico reported, citing officials and diplomats.
The publication said the issue would be raised at upcoming leaders’ meetings. The EU-Canada summit is scheduled for October 29–30, followed by the EU-UK summit on November 20. The Council of the EU’s official calendar confirms those dates.
The EU previously agreed €90 billion in assistance over two years, with €45 billion allocated to 2027. Additional needs came under discussion after Volodymyr Zelensky addressed EU leaders at their summit.
Politico’s sources do not expect formal agreements at the upcoming meetings. They said the European Commission was still determining what to ask partners for and how a request might relate to trade and defence discussions.
Diplomats told the publication that EU ambassadors would discuss preparations for the summits on Thursday, with Ukraine funding expected on the agenda.
