Politico: Hollywood is making films about tech industry leaders

Four films about Mark Zuckerberg, Sam Altman, Elon Musk and Elizabeth Holmes are due out this fall and later this year. Politico says the releases reflect growing criticism of Silicon Valley’s influence.

RIA Novosti reported on October 8 that 4 films are in the works: “The Social Reckoning,” “Artificial,” “Musk” and “You Can See Everything.” Politico portrays their central figures to varying degrees as self-interested, irresponsible, cowardly or cruel, and the films as a new on-screen backlash against Silicon Valley’s influence.

The publication links the releases to public anxiety over the rapid development of artificial intelligence, the effects of social media and the political influence of technology executives. Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group chairman and CEO Tom Rothman told Politico that many people believe major technology companies do not pay enough attention to ordinary people’s interests. One of Hollywood’s traditional roles, he said, is to hold power to account.

The films feature Meta* chief Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk, and Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. The medical startup Theranos went bankrupt. *Meta is designated an extremist organization and banned in Russia.
