RIAS says antisemitic incidents remain high in Berlin

The organization documented 2,197 incidents in 2025 and says reports remain at a high level in 2026.

Berlin’s RIAS documentation center says antisemitic incidents remain high nearly three years after Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel and the start of the Gaza war. RIAS recorded 2,197 incidents in the city in 2025, project head Julia Kopp told the dpa news agency.

Kopp said the volume of reports remained high in 2026. RIAS expects the elevated level seen after a sharp rise in incidents following October 2023 to continue. The organization lists attacks, threats, discrimination, graffiti and stickers among the incidents it documents.

RIAS says such incidents affect Jewish residents’ daily lives: some avoid particular situations and places and limit their participation in public life because they do not feel safe.

The organization cited several examples. In April, an antisemitic message calling for Jews to be killed was found on a wall in Berlin’s Mitte district. In July, the head of a Jewish community was threatened with death while on his way to a religious service; the perpetrator repeatedly made the Nazi salute. RIAS also cited antisemitic speeches and placards at a demonstration in Mitte.

RIAS provided the assessment to dpa. Tagesspiegel and public broadcaster rbb also reported the organization’s 2025 figures. A search of ria.ru did not find a separate report on this Berlin RIAS tally for the period.
