Roman Kostomarov sends support to hospitalized Tatyana Tarasova

The Olympic champion said he was worried about the celebrated coach and hoped she would recover soon. Tarasova was hospitalized again on October 5.

Roman Kostomarov publicly addressed Tatyana Tarasova after reports of her hospitalization. The figure skater said he was saddened by the news and described the coach as a strong woman able to overcome even a difficult situation.

“We are all very, very worried and hope you get better,” TASS quoted Kostomarov as saying. He also expressed hope that Tarasova would soon recover.

The 79-year-old coach’s readmission to hospital was reported on October 5. Russian media, citing a source familiar with the situation, said doctors had not yet managed to stabilize her condition. Her diagnosis and the reasons for the hospitalization have not been publicly disclosed.

Tarasova was named an Honored Coach of the USSR in 1975 and entered the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 2008. Her pupils included Olympic champions Irina Rodnina and Alexei Yagudin.
