Romanian rescuers help two exhausted Ukrainians after five days of travel

Mountain rescuers in Romania’s Maramures county helped two Ukrainian citizens who could no longer continue after five days of travel. Salvamont said the men were brought to border police in Valea Viseului.

The men reached the Hope Refuge on Pop Ivan and called the emergency number 112. Rescuers said they were severely exhausted.

Salvamont staff gave them the shelter’s access code so they could spend the night safely. The next morning, the men began descending under telephone guidance while a rescue team climbed to meet them.

They were given hot tea and food. One man had an elastic bandage applied to his left knee but declined hospital admission, RIA Novosti reported, citing Salvamont.

This was the second such operation at the Pop Ivan shelter in less than a month. The refuge has helped three people reach safety during that period.
