The Brazilian sent Lionel Messi a message before the forward’s final match for Argentina. The friendly against Benin is scheduled at Buenos Aires’ Monumental stadium.
Former Brazil international Ronaldinho posted a message to Lionel Messi ahead of the Argentine’s farewell match for his national team. “What a pleasure and what a joy to be part of your story from the first day, brother! You made us smile so much and enjoy football,” he wrote on social media.
Ronaldinho said Messi’s name was written into the history of Argentina and world football and wished him a life full of enjoyment. He also recalled their childhood dream of representing their countries and becoming world champions. Messi, he wrote, had given everything to his national team and country, while family circumstances can make people reconsider their choices.
Argentina will face Benin at the Monumental in Buenos Aires. The match is scheduled for the night of October 7 in Moscow time. The Argentine Football Association has also described the game as Messi’s farewell before the home crowd. The forward had previously announced that he would end his appearances for the national team.
Messi won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina and reached the final of the 2026 tournament. FIFA and the Argentine federation have confirmed that the match against Benin will be his final appearance for the national team.
