Rospatent reports no surge in foreign trademark applications

Foreign companies' share of trademark applications remains at 8–9%, Rospatent head Yury Zubov told RBC Radio. He said the agency sees no increase in their activity.
Zubov explained that trademark protection must be renewed every ten years. Legal representatives operating in Russia often file applications on foreign companies' behalf. Registration activity alone therefore does not establish preparations for a business return.
The agency head said the foreign share remains stable from year to year. Rospatent nevertheless sees increased applications from eastern partners and countries Russia describes as friendly.
RBC cited January registration of the Russian-language Uniqlo trademark by Fast Retailing, the brand's Japanese owner. Rospatent registered a McDonald's trademark in February. The chain's former Russian restaurants have operated as Vkusno i Tochka since 2022.
