Russia’s largest platinum-group deposits are in Krasnoyarsk region

The Natural Resources Ministry listed the Oktyabrskoye, Talnakhskoye and Norilsk I deposits among the country’s largest.

Russia’s largest platinum and palladium deposits are located in Krasnoyarsk region, the Natural Resources Ministry said. Lenta.ru reported the ministry’s figures, citing RIA Novosti.

The ministry listed Oktyabrskoye, with 4,971.4 metric tons of platinum-group metal reserves, Talnakhskoye with 4,106.1 tons and Norilsk I with 3,203.3 tons. Russia ranks second globally in reserves of the metals, according to the ministry. South Africa leads with 63,000 tons, followed by Zimbabwe with 1,300 tons.

At the start of 2026, Russia’s platinum reserves were estimated at 3,631 tons and palladium reserves at 11,354 tons. The figures refer to estimated reserves, not annual mine output.
