Russian Foreign Ministry condemns arrest warrant for Raúl Castro
Russia’s Foreign Ministry condemned a Miami judge’s arrest warrant for Raúl Castro, warning that further escalation around Cuba could destabilise Latin America and the Caribbean.
The ministry’s statement described the accusation against Castro as groundless and politically motivated. It attributed the move to an anti-Cuban lobby in Miami seeking to settle scores with the former Cuban leader, who turned 95 in June.
The ministry linked its warning to Cuba’s difficult economic, financial and energy situation. It said a social crisis on the island could trigger large-scale migration to neighbouring countries.
Russia reaffirmed solidarity with Cuba’s government and said it would continue cooperation and mutual support.
