Russian ombudsman reports officer’s discharge to care for his mother

Russia’s human rights commissioner, Yana Lantratova, said a Moscow lieutenant colonel had been discharged from military service on family grounds after ombudsmen contacted the Defence Ministry.

According to Lantratova, the officer had been waiting for a decision on his discharge request since December 2025. His mother has a Group I disability and requires constant care, while his son needs special educational arrangements.

Lantratova and Moscow human rights commissioner Andrei Metsler asked the Defence Ministry to look into the case. She said an order discharging the officer was subsequently issued.

The discharge will allow the man to focus on his family. According to Lantratova, he plans to continue his professional career in the defence industry.
