Southern Russia may see brief October warm spell after overnight frosts

Temperatures across much of the Southern Federal District could reach 25°C near the end of the first week and a half of October, forecasters say, after colder days and possible frost.

A short-lived Indian summer is expected in southern Russia toward the end of the first ten days of October, a forecaster at the North Caucasus Hydrometeorological Centre told RIA Novosti. Warm air moving in from the Mediterranean is expected to bring the change.

Temperatures in most of the Southern Federal District may rise to 25°C. The warmer spell is forecast to last several days to a week.

Before then, a cold anticyclone is expected to bring overnight and early-morning frost to Rostov and Volgograd regions and the Republic of Kalmykia. Average daytime temperatures across the district are forecast at 13–18°C, with no significant precipitation expected.
