Szijjártó visited nearly half of UN member states over four years

The Hungarian foreign ministry’s response to a 24.hu information request says the minister made official visits to 96 of the UN’s 193 member states from 2022 to 2026, or 49.7%.

Péter Szijjártó made official visits to 96 independent states between 2022 and 2026, nearly half of the 193 UN member states. That amounts to 49.7% of the organisation’s members, according to a response from Hungary’s foreign ministry to a public-information request published by 24.hu.

The outlet reviewed documents supplied by the ministry on the costs of overseas trips by the former foreign and foreign-economy minister. 24.hu reported that Russia appeared among his destinations more often than Germany. His most expensive trip cost 262 million forints.

The report also examines the most frequent destinations, hotel costs and booking practices. In an earlier investigation, 24.hu reported that nearly 300 million forints had been spent on private aircraft that ultimately did not take off. Szijjártó has since moved to China’s BYD.
