The Telangana government has announced two pending Dearness Allowance (DA) instalments for state employees. The rates are 3.64% and 2.73%, effective from Jan. 1, 2024, The Hindu reported. Together, they are expected to add about ₹3,057 crore a year to the state’s expenditure.
According to the report, the revised rates will be paid with October salaries, due on Nov. 1. DA arrears will be credited to employees’ General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts. The release is in addition to allowances for other categories, including employees on UGC and AICTE pay scales, local-government staff and full-time contingent employees.
Employees due to retire on or before Jan. 31 next year will receive their DA arrears in 33 equal monthly instalments. They are exempt from GPF contributions during the final four months of service.
For employees covered by the Contributory Pension Scheme, 10% of DA arrears for January 2024 through September 2026 will be credited to their PRAN accounts along with the government’s share. The remaining 90% will be paid in 33 equal monthly instalments from Nov. 1.
The government also announced revised Dearness Relief for pensioners from the October pension, payable on Nov. 1. Arrears of the revised relief will be paid in 33 monthly instalments.
