Tiruchi fines eight property owners for mosquito breeding sites

The city corporation imposed ₹24,000 in penalties after finding breeding sources at eight residential properties.

Tiruchi Corporation fined the owners of eight residential properties a total of ₹24,000 after finding mosquito-breeding sites there, The Hindu reported.

The civic body has deployed 400 domestic breeding checkers to inspect streets and homes, remove breeding sources, apply the larvicide Abate and carry out fogging. The measures target Aedes aegypti, which can spread dengue.

On Friday, Corporation Commissioner N. Ponmani conducted inspections in Wards 35 and 49 in Zones II and III. Officials found potential breeding sites at homes and buildings under construction. The owners of eight residential properties were fined.

Residents were told to prevent water from stagnating in tanks, plastic containers and other receptacles. The corporation warned that non-compliance could lead to fines and legal action under the Public Health Act.
